AUSSIE-YEN: Reports noting that Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine produced antibodies
in all patients taking part in a trial boosted risk appetite early on, bumping
AUD/JPY higher. The rate pulled back, as initial enthusiasm pared back somewhat,
with participants likely turning focus to caveats in reports about the vaccine
trial, which was small-scale, early-stage and some participants experienced side
effects. A subsequent rebound has elevated the pair again, but earlier highs are
yet to be tested.
- AUD/JPY last changes hands at Y75.00, 19 pips higher on the day. A renewed
push higher, past Jul 6 high of Y75.16, would bring Jun 8 high of Y76.79 into
view. Bears look for a dip through Jul 10 low of Y73.98, before targeting Jun 24
- 29 lows located in the Y73.35-31 area.
- The BoJ conclude their two-day MonPol meeting, decision announcement is due at
some point today. Australian Westpac Consumer Confidence is also due.
