Australia Chevron Strike Risk Despite Woodside in-Principle Endorsement

LNG

Offshore Alliance members have endorsed an in-principle agreement with Woodside Energy with a final draft of Enterprise Agreement provided to OA on Monday.

  • Offshore Alliance announced on Friday that workers had "overwhelmingly endorsed" the draft agreement and no strike action would take place while the agreement was finalised and put to a second formal vote.
  • Unions at Chevron's LNG facilities in Australia however warned on Friday that work stoppages could cost the US energy major billions of dollars if demands over wages and conditions were not met.
  • The unions also criticised the company for putting a proposal directly to a worker vote without going through the bargaining process.
  • A union ballot of workers at Gorgon and Wheatstone downstream facilities yesterday voted in favour of industrial action if needed. A second ballot of workers at Chevron’s Wheatstone platform will be finalized on 28 August.
  • Strikes could include refusing to load tankers or vessels, bans on certain tasks and a full strike.
