Australia July Retail Sales -2.7% M/M; Food Retailing Up

  • Australia retail trade fell 2.7% m/m (A$29.78 bln) in seasonally adjusted estimate, further dipping from the previous 1.8% m/m drop.
  • Retail sales fell 3.1% y/y, compared with 2.9% y/y rise registered in June.
  • Food retailing rose 2.3% ($296.9m) in July, decelerating from the 1.5% increase last month.
  • Household goods retailing fell 2.2% (-$123.1m) in July, faster than the previous1.3% fall.
  • Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing fell 15.4% (-$354.8m) in July, slower than last 9.5% fall.
  • Department stores fell 11.4% (-$178.3m), quicker than the 7.0% fall in June.
