Austria Aims to Raise PV Output 561% by 2040

POWER

Austria is targeting 41 TWh/yr of PV output by 2040, about 6 times its output in 2023 at 6.3TWh, Climate and Energy minister Leonore Gewessler said, cited by Montel.

  • The country aims to add 2 GW/yr to meet this target – to cover around 30% of power supply by then - but has only exceeded this goal once, with 2.5GW in 2023.
  • Austria’s strategy to enable this rate of new PV additions will be down to setting up guidelines that are “attractive enough for private individuals and companies to install solar arrays,” according to the government.
  • The country is aiming to become climate-neutral by 2040.
