Azerbaijan Struggles To Agree With Partners On TAP Pipeline Expansion

Azerbaijan has difficulties to get all partners in the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to agree on an expansion needed to ship more Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe, President Ilham Aliyev said.

  • The pipeline is currently operating at full capacity. An expansion would be needed to increase natural gas exports to Europe, Aliyev said.
  • Azerbaijan’s Socar and partners have to agree to double TAP’s current capacity to 20bcm/yr.
  • Socar also plans to increase Tanap’s capacity from 16bcm/yr to 32bcm/yr.
  • Last year Azerbaijan announced plans to increase natural gas exports to Europe to 20bcm/yr by 2027.
