NATURAL GAS

Azerbaijan plans to supply almost half of its 24.5bcm of natural gas exports to Europe this year, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.

  • Last year Azerbaijan supplied 11.4bcm of natural gas to Europe. The country recently signed supply agreements with Romania and Hungary in addition to its traditional supply markets Italy, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Georgia.
  • While European countries are “less desperate” this year as the energy crisis eased, there is still interest in Azerbaijan’s gas, Bayramov said.
  • “Gas prices are up and down but for European countries it is more important to have alternatives and to have a stable, not politicized source of gas,” he added.
  • Azerbaijan exported 10.3bcm of natural gas in Jan-May, up by 9.6% year on year. This includes 4.8bcm of exports to Europe, data from the State Statistics Committee showed.
