Barbados-Flagged Bulk Carrier Hit By Missile on Wednesday

The Barbados-flagged bulk carrier, True Confidence, was hit by a missile 54NM southwest of Aden on Wednesday, several outlets reported.

  • Three crew members are missing from vessels and four others have sustained serious burns after the vessel was damaged off Yemen, a shipping source told Reuters.
  • A latest Bloomberg headline suggested there are no information on the status of the crew on board, citing the ship owner.
  • TradeWinds reported crew members were spotted in lifeboats after abandoning the ship.
  • The UKMTO has received a report 54NM southwest of Aden, Yemen, of a merchant vessel to have been hit and has suffered damage, it said via X. The incident occurred at 08:40UTC on 6 March.
  • Vessels in the vicinity have reported a loud bang and a large plume of smoke sighted, according to the UKMTO.
  • An US defense official said smoke has been seen from Barbados-flagged bulk carrier, True Confidence, near the coast of Yemen. A lifeboat has been seen in water near the vessel.
