High global economic uncertainty calls for the European Central Bank to act cautiously and prudently, gradually easing restrictions toward a neutral stance over the next half year, Bank of Spain Governor Jose Luis Escriva said on Thursday in Davos.

The ECB should keep its options open given uncertainty, Escriva said, pointing to U.S. fiscal challenges—describing them as more concerning than those in the euro area—alongside high asset valuations as key risks that central banks must monitor closely. “Markets tend to overlook elements that clash with their optimistic views,” he added.
