US DATA REACT: Barclays economist Pooja Sriram noted that the US Philadelphia
Fed Manufacturing Index "rebounded to 26.2 in December from 22.7, contrary to
expectations of a slight moderation (Barclays: 22.0, consensus: 21.0). Within
the subcomponents, new orders rose to 29.8 (+8.4 points) and shipments improved
to 23.4 (+1.7 points). Prices paid ticked lower to 25.4 from 39.0. The index on
the number of employees edged lower to 18.1 from 22.6. On an ISM-adjusted basis,
the print is consistent with a reading of 57.4."
- Sriram adds that "aAltogether, today's reading remains well above the
six-month average of 23.2 and continues to signal strong manufacturing
production in the US."
