Barnier Set To Brief EU Ambassadors Friday, Doesn't Indicate Deal - RTE

Tony Connelly at RTE tweets "NEW: EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier is expected to brief EU ambassadors in Brussels on Friday on the state of play in the Brexit negotiations. Meeting is not confirmed, but is "very, very likely" acc to one diplomat. Sources suggesting this is *not* indicative of a breakthrough. More that he has not briefed national capitals since November 8. As it's only Tuesday there has been, I'm told, no real movement yet this week.

Although a lot of joint legal text is "nearly there" there remains a fundamental and philosophical divide on the level playing field/governance and fisheries issues. "What's keeping us stuck is fundamentals rather than technical work at this stage," says one source."
