BCB Focus Survey Due

  • The BCB will publish its weekly Focus Survey at 1225BST(0725ET), with attention on the Selic rate forecast, following last week’s MPC meeting when the Copom slowed the pace of easing to 25bp. In last week’s Focus survey, the 2024 year-end Selic rate forecast rose to 9.63%, from 9.50%, while the 2025 CPI inflation estimate also edged higher. Weekly trade balance data will also cross at 1900BST.
  • Meanwhile, Petrobras will release its Q1 earnings report after markets close today. EBITDA is expected to come in around $13bn, according to analyst forecasts, while dividend payments are expected to be between $3bn and $3.5bn.
  • On the political front, President Lula is due to meet with chief of staff Rui Costa and Finance Minister Haddad at 1300BST, while BCB President Campos Neto is attending the BIS bimonthly meetings in Switzerland.
