BCCh President Costa Speaks About Economy At 1330BST

CHILE
  • The Chilean peso outperformed last week, gaining by 0.5% against the dollar, with support coming from the continued rally in copper prices to their highest in two years. USDCLP closed around 950, with attention remaining on initial support at 935.63, the Mar 15 low. A clear break of this level would highlight a stronger reversal and signal scope for an extension towards 922.80.
  • Data wise, the macro calendar is light today, with focus on activity data for March tomorrow, including retail sales, IP and copper production. This will be followed by the release of the IMACEC economic activity indicator for March on Thursday, with analysts expecting growth to have slowed to 2.0% y/y, from 4.5% previously.
  • Separately, BCCh President Rosanna Costa is due to speak about the economy at an event organised by the National Mining Society at 1330BST / 0830ET.
