BCRP Governor Expects CPI Within Target Range In Next Two Months

  • Central Bank Governor Julio Velarde affirmed that the inflation rate in Peru is expected to be within the target range (1%-3%) in the next two months.
    • "It was the first (country) among emerging markets to react and raise its reference interest rate (August 2021) in the face of inflationary pressures. It is currently one of the first countries to reduce the inflation rate to be close to its target range," Velarde said during his participation at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
    • "I think inflation is reducing around the world, and that we will probably reach the target range. Some countries could reach it in 2025; in our case, inflation is close to the target range, and we expect it to be within that target in the next two months; so, we are doing pretty well," he stressed.
