Belgian PM Calls Out Polish Counterpart On 'Incendiary' Interview

Speaking to the opening address at the College of Europe, Belgian PM Alexander De Croo criticised his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki for an FT interview in which the latter declared the EU risked 'world war three' if it sought to punish Poland for supposed breaches of EU rule-of-law standards.

  • Philip Regier at Le Soir tweets: "Alexander de Croo sur Morawiecki @collegeofeurope: To those who give incendiary [interviews] and think necessary to declare a new world war in FT, I want to say: you are playing a dangerous game, playing with fire when waging war with your EU colleagues for internal [political] reasons."
  • In the referenced interview, Morawiecki stated that "What is going to happen if the European Commission will start the Third World War? If they start the Third World War, we are going to defend our rights with any weapons, we are going to defend our rights with any weapons which are at our disposal,"
