Better Risk Sentiment Drives A$ Higher

Aussie is stronger during the APAC session as risk appetite strengthens as tensions in the Middle East ease. AUDUSD is up 0.4% to 0.6446, off the intraday high of 0.6455 (resistance is at 0.6481). The USD index is down 0.1%.

  • Aussie has outperformed most other major currencies except kiwi. AUDNZD is down 0.1% to 1.0890 after reaching a peak of 1.0906. AUDJPY is 0.4% higher to 99.68, AUDEUR +0.4% to 0.6044 and AUDGBP +0.3% to 0.5205.
  • Equities are stronger with the ASX up 1.0% and the Hang Seng +2.2%. S&P e-minis are 0.3% higher today. Oil prices are lower with the easing of tensions. WTI is down 0.7% to $81.66/bbl. Copper is 1.1% higher and iron ore is up to around $116-117/t.
  • Later the Chicago Fed activity index for March, and the ECB’s Lagarde and BoE’s Benjamin speak.
