Biden's First Presser Coming Up At 1315ET

WHITE HOUSE

President Joe Biden will hold his first official press conference in office today, over two months on from his inauguration.

  • The presser takes place at 1315ET (1715GMT, 1815CET) in the East Room in front of 25 journalists.
  • The session is expected to last up to 90 mins, with Biden due to speak at the European Council summit via videolink at 1545ET (2045CET).
  • A broad slate of topics likely to come up including immigration and the situation at the southern border, a potential effort to end the Senate filibuster in relation to voting rights and gun control legislation, key foreign policy stances on Russia, China, and Iran, and the issue of whether Biden will run for office again in 2024.
  • Biden himself is likely to try to pivot questions and responses towards the USD1.9trn American Rescue Package legislation passed last month and potentially the mooted USD3trn infrastructure package that has the vast aims of repairing the US' rail and roads, creating tens of thousands of jobs, and combatting climate change.
  • Presser can be watched live here.
