Bloomberg Dollar Index Approaches US Election Peak, EMFX Suffers

USD
  • Broad dollar strength has continued in recent sessions and particular weakness in the heavily weighted Euro has exacerbated moves in the Bloomberg dollar index. The BBDXY has now printed YTD highs for five consecutive sessions.
  • The index is now fast approaching the highest level since the US presidential election in 2020: 1178.76, the November 4th 2020 high.
  • Correspondingly, emerging market currencies have been bearing the brunt of the greenback strength. The JPMorgan Emerging Market Currency Index has been in a steady downtrend since September and is now approaching some important horizontal supports from roughly the same period in 2020. These supports are highlighted around the 54 handle for the index.
  • A potential break opens up a move towards 52 for the index which would correspond with the pandemic lows
