BOJ: TD Securities Revise BoJ Call, See Three Hikes by Year-end

  • TD Securities revise their call on the BoJ and now expect a rate hike in July. They also expect further tightening at the October and December meetings, bringing the policy balance rate to 0.75% at year-end. They see this shift in stance fending off speculative short JPY positioning amid a bullish USD environment.
  • Over the medium-term, they think that Japanese capital flows will be a bigger source of support for the currency, reflecting the scope for repatriation on policy normalization and the rebalancing of asset allocation targets that are currently directed to foreign markets.
