US DATA REACT: Both headline and core inflation came in 1/10th below
expectations in May, -0.1% M/M each (core -0.06% so close to flat). The BLS
notes that this is the first time the ex-food and energy index has declined in
three consecutive months.
- Another tidbit that may or may not be related to lockdown / reopening spending
patterns: While car insurance, apparel, and airline fare prices continued to
plummet, "the index for alcoholic beverages increased 0.8 percent in May, its
largest increase since January 2012."
