BP to Cut Crude Capacity at Gelsenkirchen Refinery from 2025

BP is planning to cut the crude capacity at the 254kbpd Gelsenkirchen from 2025 to 160kbpd, BP said in a statement.

  • BP plans to halt five units at Gelsenkirchen, reducing annual crude consumption to 8mn tons from 12mn tons currently from 2025.
  • The revamp of the complex will include a repurposing of a key diesel-making unit at the refinery to make sustainable aviation fuel.
  • “Our refinery in Gelsenkirchen is currently uncompetitive,” said Arno Appel, head of the plant. It is “burdened with structural costs that are too high.”
