BRAZIL: Reports Suggest President Lula to Meet with Ministers Today

  • According to O Globo, Finance Minister Haddad is currently meeting with the President. Reports suggest Haddad went alone for this conversation with Lula that was not scheduled on the agenda. The meeting with the economic team is scheduled for this Wednesday, at 2030 BST/1630 local. According to the Treasury, it is a kind of preliminary conversation about tax matters that will be detailed in the afternoon.
  • Separately, Bloomberg reported that Lula’s meeting with his ministers today would be to discuss the recent market volatility. As a reminder, Haddad said Tuesday that the administration should improve its communication after the BRL weakening and reinforce its support for central bank autonomy and the fiscal framework.
