Brazilian Energy Minister Affirms Demand for Russian Diesel

Brazil will continue to import Russian diesel to contain prices for its domestic market according to Mines and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira.

  • Following EU sanctions on Russian oil products Feb 5, redirected flows across the Atlantic have made Russia the top diesel supplier to Brazil this year.
  • “If the import of diesel, whether Russian or from any other nation, favors keeping domestic prices down, then it is not a concern,” Silveira said.
  • Brazil’s Petrobras has a five-year plan to try and make the country self sufficient for gasoline and diesel production Silveira added.
