The UK's political environment is set to enter a quiet period for several days following the passing of His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

  • All major political parties have called off campaigning activities ahead of elections for the Scottish and Welsh parliaments, metropolitan mayors, London Assembly, and English local councils on 6 May.
  • Any press conferences or speeches on other subjects (including COVID-19) that were set to take place over the coming days have been postponed or cancelled.
  • No bills going through parliament will receive Royal Assent to become law for at least a week as the Queen enters an eight-day period of mourning, which could be extended at the Queen's discretion.
