Bulgartransgaz Sees Possibility Of Gazprom Reducing Flows Post Transit Tax

Bulgaria’s gas grid operator said it is possible that Gazprom may reduce natural gas flows via Bulgaria after Bulgaria’s introduction of the gas transit tax according to Bloomberg.

  • “There could be some reduction in the region, and maybe this is the ultimate goal,”Bulgartransgaz CEO Vladimir Malinov said.
  • The transit contract is fully ship-or-pay, meaning actual transit volumes won’t impact the operator’s revenues, he added.
  • Gazprom is currently objecting to pay Bulgaria the transiting tax on grounds it is not liable under current law, the Bulgarian Finance Minister said this week.
  • A disruption to flows could affect supplies to Serbia, Hungary and Austria.
