Bullard Favours 50bps Hike, Raises Prospect of Inter-Meeting Hike

FED
  • The greenback reverses losses as Treasuries come under further pressure following comments from Fed's Bullard. He stresses that he favours the first 50bps rate rise since 2000 and 100bps by the beginning of H2. Interestingly, Bullard mentions that the Fed should be open to considering an inter-meeting rate rise.
  • Bullard is among the most hawkish on the FOMC and is a voter this year (but not 2023, 2024).
  • Fed have hiked rates inter-meeting before, last was under Greenspan in April 1994, when they raised rates from 3.50% to 3.75%.
