JAN EZ Consumer Confidence Slips To Lowest Since March

  • Eurozone consumer confidence declined for the fourth consecutive month in January, hitting its lowest level since the widespread lockdowns affected much of the region back in March.
  • An index of consumer sentiment slipped -8.5 this month from -8.4 in December, while measures of corporate confidence also declined. The composite economic sentiment index fell to 112.7 from 113.8, the lowest since August.
  • Industrial confidence declined to 13.9 from 14.6, while sentiment in the services sector slumped to 9.4 from 11.4, the lowest reading since April. However confidence in the retail trade increased to 3.8 in January from 1.1 in the final month of 2021.
