Cabinet Reshuffle Next on the Agenda

SOUTH AFRICA
  • Following his re-election at the ANC party political conference this week, local press writes that Ramaphosa now has no reason not to proceed with his agenda and must be more decisive in decision-making.
  • EWN writes that the ANC integrity commission has not yet tabled its report on the Phala Phala scandal. The party's disciplinary structure was initially set to report back to the NEC in its final meetings before the conference, but that was deferred to the five-day event currently underway at Nasrec in Soweto. The switch may prevent Ramaphosa’s re-election being marred by his political opposition.
  • Daily Maverick writes that Ramaphosa’s priority list is now a cabinet reshuffle that could occur ahead of February’s State of the Nation address, with some fractious ministers including Sisulu and Dlamini Zuma likely to be shuffled out of cabinet.
  • Weekly data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) shows that motorists in South Africa will be entering the new year with a much lower petrol price – and an even bigger cut on the cards for diesel, according to BusinessTech.
  • According to the CEF’s data for 16 December 2022, motorists can expect a petrol price cut of around R1.93 per litre in January 2023, while diesel could be cut by as much as R2.83 per litre.
