CAD Continues To Not Drift Far From Pre-BoC Levels

  • USDCAD sits at the top end of a relatively narrow range for the US session, with a rare lack of downward momentum from equities continuing to firm (in a broader USD move rather than CAD-specific).
  • Currently 1.3621, it’s only 0.4% higher than prior to the BoC’s surprise downshift to a 50bp hike on Wed, having remained below the post decision high of 1.3651 since then, whilst crosses such as AUDCAD have more than unwound the initial move higher despite strong Australian CPI.
  • With the recent pullback in USDCAD deemed corrective, a return of a broader trend higher could see resistance at 1.3748 (Oct 25 high).
