Campos Neto Sees Some Improvement In Labour-Sensitive Services CPI
BRAZIL
- Local markets are closed today for the May 1 Labour Dar holiday. Focus will thus be on the FOMC decision at 1900BST(1400ET) and Powell’s post meeting comments. While he’s is likely to affirm the FOMC’s currently higher-for-longer stance, the degree to which he plays down rate hike possibilities will be key to the market’s takeaway from the meeting.
- In other news, Finance Minister Haddad said yesterday that the government is waiting for reports from Moody’s and Fitch on the country. He also said that the government is seeking a solution for the payroll tax exemption, following the recent appeal by the Senate against the Supreme Court ruling suspending an extension of some of the exemption.
- Meanwhile, BCB President Campos Neto said in an interview with CNN Brazil that inflation is in the process of converging, with the latest readings a little better and behaving as expected. He also noted that indicators for labour-intensive services inflation are improving.
