CANADA: A Particularly Heavy Week For BoC Speak
CANADA
BoC Governor Macklem is now set to speak on Friday to round out what’s set to be a far heavier than usual week for BoC-speak. The FT reported him over the weekend seeing an option to accelerate rate cuts from its current 25bp pace if the economy doesn’t grow as expected, although we’d note a similar stance at the BoC meeting earlier this month (when he outlined scenarios for both pausing and cutting by 50bps).
- Today at 1800ET – Senior Dep Gov Rogers speaks in a fireside chat (no prepared text or audience/media Q&A).
- Wed at 1330ET – BoC Summary of Deliberations. Macklem said there was “strong consensus” for 25bp cut on Sep 4, as had been the case for the July decision as well.
- Thu at 0800ET – External Dep Gov Vincent on “Monetary policy decision-marking: behind the scenes” in his second public appearance since joining the Governing Council in Mar 2023 on a two-year term. Text at 0800ET, speech at 0815ET to be followed by audience Q&A but no subsequent media Q&A.
