CANADA DATA: Capacity Utilization Rose In Q2 Led By Oil; Construction Fades

  • Canada industrial capacity utilization rose to 79.1% in Q2 from 78.6% in Q1.
  • Manufacturing capacity utilization +0.5pp to 77.6% in Q2 led by computer, electronic and wood products.
  • Utilization in mining, oil and gas extraction +1.6 pp to 77.2% in Q2. Gain wasn't linked to opening of expanded TMX pipeline but rather the end of some "maintenance and turnarounds late in the first quarter."
  • Construction declined 0.2pp to 82.4% on dip in residential work, StatsCan says Friday.
