Canada Exploring East Coast LNG Exports for Europe

Canada’s Trudeau said his country was exploring ways to see if there was a business case to export LNG from Canada’s east coast, directly to Europe in a press conference yesterday evening.

  • German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is visiting Canada right now and European energy security is part of the agenda. "we will do what we can" to contribute to the global supply of energy by increasing capacities in the short term Trudeau said.
  • Canada will also "explore ways to see if it makes sense to export LNG and if there's a business case for it to export LNG directly to Europe ... economic conversations are going on between businesses in Canada and in Germany," he said.
  • Canada has been reluctant from an environmental standpoint to invest in east coast LNG infrastructure in the past. The futureproof plan is to design it to work in a hydrogen fuelled economy in the future.
