Canada's TMX Expansion Temporarily Halted Over Disturbed Bird Nesting

The Canada Energy Regulator said Tuesday it ordered Trans Mountain Expansion Pipeline (TMX) to stop work on part of its expansion project.

  • It came after it found contractors working without authorization near active bird nesting sites.
  • “Trans Mountain will be able to resume reclamation and clean-up activities on spread 6 of the expansion pipeline near Abbotsford, British Columbia, once an inspection officer determines the situation has been remedied” the regulator said in a statement.
  • The Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion will be complete by the end of May, with the first waterborne exports from the expanded system starting a month later according to Danielle Smith, the Premier of Alberta said on Tuesday, prior to the latest announcement.
