Canada's TMX Loads 20 Vessels in First Month

Around 20 vessels loaded from the recently opened Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion in its first month in service according to Kpler.

  • Trans Mountain initially forecast 22 vessels to load in the first month.
  • "This first month is just shy of the 350,000-400,000 bpd we expected ahead of the startup,” lead Kpler analyst Matt Smith said.
  • Vessels loading from the pipeline have mostly sailed to the U.S. West Coast and Asia. Some cargoes were loaded onto larger ships for delivery to India and China.
  • Chinese demand is expcetd to be higher in the future when refinery margins are stronger.
