THAILAND: Candidates For BoT Chair To Be Known By Feb 5

The Finance Ministry and the Bank of Thailand will each provide its list of nominees for central bank chairperson by February 5, while the panel responsible with the selection of the final candidate will convene on February 7, according to an update from Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Lavaron Sangsnit.

  • The Finance Ministry may propose one candidate, while the central bank may propose two candidates, who then have to go through the selection process.
  • Kittiratt Na-Ranong, the previous front-runner to become BoT chairman, was disqualified in December, as the Council of State deemed him ineligible.
