CBR Expected to Keep Rates Unchanged at 7.50%

  • The CBR are seen keeping rates unchanged at 7.50% at today’s meeting, following little change to the economic backdrop since the last meeting. The monetary policy decision will be announced at 1030 GMT/1330 local time, followed by a press conference by Governor Nabiullina at 1200 GMT/1500 local time.

  • Air raid sirens went off across all Ukrainian regions early Friday as Kremlin forces launched the latest large-scale missile attack, Bloomberg report. Among the targets were “crucial infrastructure” in the Kharkiv region in the northeast. The strikes come a day after a top Ukrainian army commander warned there’s “no doubt” Russian forces will attempt to seize Kyiv as soon as January.
  • EU member states reached a deal on a ninth package of sanctions on Russia, targeting Moscow’s access to drones, additional banks as well as Russian officials, Bloomberg report. The measures, which enter into force once published in the EU’s official journal, were agreed by the bloc’s ambassadors Thursday evening.
