Some excerpts out of the CDU/CSU election manifesto, scheduled for a release next Tuesday, reported by Bild:

  • Income tax rate is to be gradually reduced and the top tax rate of 42 percent will no longer apply from an annual taxable income of 67,000 euros, but from 80,000 euros.
  • The solidarity surcharge is also to be completely abolished.
  • Reduction of the VAT rate for food in restaurants from 19 per cent to seven per cent.
  • A higher commuter allowance
  • No annual tax returns for a large set of retirees
