Central Bank to Present Report on Economic Growth

  • Addressing the debate of the 2024 budget in parliament, Finance Minister Mihaly Varga said the budget was "a defence budget", adding that in times of war Hungary must guarantee its security, protect families, pensions, jobs and maintain low utility costs, MTI report.
  • Forint liquidity of the Hungarian banking sector expanded in May, evidenced by a rise in lenders' deposits with the central bank, monthly data released by the NBH this morning show. The average stock of O/N deposits offered by the NBH at daily quick tenders stood at HUF 6,960bn in May, up HUF 284bn from April. The NBH paid the 18% effective rate on these deposits, well above the 13% base rate.
  • The central bank will present a report on economic growth later this morning at 0900BST/1000CET. There are no other data releases or speaker events planned today.
