Chances of Rhine Level at Kaub Falling Below 100cm above 50%

The likelihood of the measured water-level at Kaub falling below 100cm in October is as high as 70%, according to an official forecast.

  • This would have implications for the size of barges that could navigate the Rhine. At 100cm, a standard 100m barge carrying diesel would be restricted to 1.1k mt, around 45% of capacity.
  • Kaub is a key waypoint on the shallowest part of the Middle Rhine, which is used to transport oil products such as diesel and gasoil to the Southwest of Germany.
