Chevron Halts Gas Exports via Israel-Egypt EMG Pipeline

Chevron has stopped natural gas exports via an offshore pipeline between Israel and Egypt and is using the alternative pipeline via Jordan, according to Reuters citing government sources.

  • The decision follows an intensification in fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
  • The 90km EMG pipeline spans from Askelon in southern Israel, 10km north of Gaza, to El-Arish in Egypt, where it connects to onshore pipeline networks. It is the main link between the Leviathan gas field and Egypt.
  • Israel’s Energy Ministry confirmed it had requested the flows to be diverted. This follows the Energy Ministry’s request for a halt in production at the Tamar gas field in the south of Israel.
  • According to Reuters’ sources, gas exports to Egypt via the Leviathan field have been reduced as Israel prioritises domestic consumption
