CHILE: Q2 GDP Data Due, BHP Finalises Labour Contract with Union

  • Second-quarter GDP is expected to have risen by 1.6% from a year ago, slower than the 2.3% growth reported in the first quarter. Current account data is also expected, with all data scheduled for 1330BST/0830ET:
    • Q2 GDP YoY, est. 1.6%, prior 2.3%; QoQ est. -0.6%, prior 1.9%
    • Q2 Current Account Balance, est. -$1.8b, prior -$104m
  • BHP and workers in Chile resolved a last-minute disagreement over benefits that had threatened to upend a wage deal and reignite a strike at the world’s biggest copper mine. A new three-year contract for about 2,400 workers at the Escondida mine has been signed, ending the dispute over benefits, BHP said in a statement.
  • In the latest Cadem Survey referencing the October municipal elections, 36% of respondents would vote for a candidate who supports President Boric's government and 51% for an opposition candidate.
