China Buys Record Amounts of Russian Aluminium

  • China’s purchases of Russian aluminium climbed to an all-time high for a third consecutive month in September, according to customs data that was cited by Bloomberg. Chinese buyers have often used their own currency rather than dollars to buy the metal, with refined aluminium imports from Russia to China climbing to nearly 153,000 tons last month and almost tripling year-to-date to about 800,000 tons.
  • Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov takes part in a six-nation summit in Iran. Iran's official IRNA news agency reported earlier that the foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia had been invited to meet for the talks. There are no notable releases on the docket today.
  • Looking ahead, Industrial Production figures will cross on Wednesday while the CBR rate decision takes focus on Friday.
