MNI MARKETS ANALYSIS: China Charts - Will An RRR Cut Matter?

Executive Summary:

  • Earlier today, we heard that the China State Council raised the probability of an RRR cut in the near term to ease financial conditions.
  • A diversity of financial and economic indicators have shown in recent months that China economic activity has peaked in mid-February.
  • We have also seen that China 'liquidity' has been contracting significantly since the last quarter of 2020.
  • Hence, cutting the RRR could stimulate the financial assets in the short run, and also cheapen the CNY.
