China Increase LNG Imports from Russia

China's LNG imports from Russia reached a 22-month high of about 611k mt in August according to shipping data from S&P Global Commodity Insights.

  • China imported six mostly term contract LNG cargoes of about 71k mt each from Russia's Yamal LNG terminal and three spot cargoes of about 62k mt each from the Sakhalin LNG terminal.
  • Increase cargo volumes are requried to replenish inventories before winter and with strong demand from gas-fired power plants because of hot weather in east China leading to robust demand and reduced hydro power output.
