China's Unipec Asks to Intervene in Venture Global LNG Extension

China’s state owned Unipec has asked US regulators for an opportunity to intervene in a request from Venture Global LNG to extend the commissioning period of its Louisiana project.

  • BP, Shell, Repsol, Edison and Orlen have previously opposed an extension of the commissioning period claiming they have lost billions of dollars of profit from undelivered cargoes from the project.
  • Venture Global's long-term customers, have not received contracted cargoes of LNG because the plant is still in the commissioning stage but has delivered spot cargoes to the international market.
  • Unipec said it missed a March 8 deadline to intervene due to an administrative oversight.
