CHINA: China said it's ready for any possible trade measure escalations by the
U.S., and the country will continue to retaliate if the U.S. sticks to the
"wrong path," Gao Feng, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce said in Beijing
Thursday.
- Gao noted the world's two largest economies have not started any bilateral
formal negotiations so far regarding their escalated trade tension.
- With media reports suggesting the U.S. is considering further trade sanctions
against China, with consumer goods possibly the next target, Gao urged the U.S.
not to underestimate China's determination to counter the protectionism and
unilateralism of the U.S. "It would be a miscalculation" if the U.S. tries to
impede China's development or force China to make comprises, Gao stressed.
- He shrugged off suggestions that the ministry's Tuesday anti-dumping action on
U.S. sorghum is China's retaliation for U.S. sanctions.
