China September Foreign Direct Investment Rises 17.3% Y/Y

--FDI Up 1.6% In First 9 Months Vs 0.2% Drop For Jan-August
     BEIJING (MNI) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) into China rose 17.3%
year-on-year to CNY70.63 billion in September, accelerating over the 9.1% growth
seen in August, the Ministry of Commerce said Friday in a statement on its
website. 
     For the first nine months, FDI increased 1.6% on an annualized basis to
CNY618.57 billion, excluding investment in the financial sector, compared with a
0.2% decrease during the first eight months, the ministry said.
     FDI in the manufacturing sector rose 7.5% to CNY181.76 billion during the
January-September period, comprising 29.4% of total FDI, compared with 3.9%
growth during the first eight months. FDI in the services sector totaled
CNY428.19 billion in the first nine months, comprising 69.2% of total FDI,
MOFCOM noted. 
     FDI in the high-technology services sector increased 24% year-on-year to
CNY91.59 billion in the January-September period, compared with 21.4% growth to
CNY81.44 billion in the first eight months, MOFCOM said. 
     FDI in the high-technology manufacturing sector grew 27.5% year-on-year to
CNY52.98 billion in the January-September period, compared with 15% growth in
the first eight months.
     China will further open up its economy, deepen reform and set up more pilot
free-trade zones to attract more foreign investment, the ministry said.
