China Summoned Czech Ambassador Over Speaker's Taiwan Trip-Seznam Zpravy

Seznam Zpravy reports that China summoned Czechia's ambassador to Beijing Vladimir Tomsik over Chamber of Deputies Speaker Marketa Pekarova Adamova's recent trip to Taiwan. This was confirmed by Czech Foreign Ministry spokesman Daniel Drake, albeit he refused to comment on the details of the meeting.

  • Tomsik had previously served as Deputy Governor of the CNB before being appointed Czechia's ambassador to China by President Milos Zeman and played an important role in implementing his Beijing-friendly policy.
  • Czechia's Foreign Ministry is currently working on Tomsik's replacement as his tenure is due to expire soon. This coincides with a further shift in Czechia's China policy following the electoral victory of of pro-Western presidential candidate Petr Pavel.
