China to Phase out Diesel Trucks

OIL PRODUCTS

China is planning to phase out diesel trucks meeting the National IV and below emissions standards, OilChem said.

  • This constitutes around 1.2m units that require replacing, OilChem added, with most regions aiming to complete the change by end-2025.
  • The phase out could displace around 45.36m mtpa of diesel, or 23% of China’s diesel consumption.
  • During the phase out, the government will promote new energy trucks, such as electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks. These are currently only 3% of the truck supply.
