China’s July LNG Imports Rose by 23.7% YoY

LNG

China imported 5.86 million tonnes of LNG in July, down by 1.66% month on month, but up by 23.68% year on year, data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) showed.

  • LNG imports in the first seven months of this year stood at 39.48mn tonnes, up by 9.23% on the year, because of recovering domestic demand as well as higher power demand in some months due to droughts.
  • July imports fell slightly on the month amid lower power demand due to the typhoon in South China as well as higher LNG import prices that weighed on some buying interest according to Oilchem.
  • Australia remained the top LNG supplier to China with volumes of around 2.21mn tonnes in July, up by 22.21% on the year. This is followed by Qatar with volumes of 1.26mn tonnes last month.
